Beatrice Ojakangas will speak about her memoir Homemade: Finnish Rye, Feed Sack Fashion, and Other Simple Ingredients from My Life in Food.
Her memoir includes fascinating stores that incorporate a wide variety of connections in Minnesota culinary history. Her grandfather sent for a Finnish mail-order bride, and got one who'd trained as a chef. She's made egg rolls for Chun King and won a Pillsbury Bake Off recipe contest (both Minnesota businesses). She's appeared on TV with Julia Child and Martha Stewart and her book The Great Scandinavian Baking Book was inducted in the James Beard Cookbook Hall of Fame.
This event is made possible by a grant provided by the Traverse des Sioux Library Cooperative and
was funded in part or in whole with money from Minnesota's Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.
