Local historian Gary Wiltscheck will share a PowerPoint presentation based on his forthcoming book on the Bluem family tragedy. The seven members of the Bluem family lived in the Leavenworth area of Brown County and were ambushed by Dakota as they were fleeing their farm for New Ulm on August 18. Only 12-year-old son John survived. Wiltscheck has uncovered information from land records and depredation claims to provide a rich account of this family's life and death on the prairie. This event is made possible by a grant provided by the Traverse des Sioux Library Cooperative and was funded in part or in whole with money from Minnesota's Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.
