How do I find a magazine article?
To find magazine articles, look for a link to ELM databases (Electronic Library for Minnesota) on the online catalog menu bar under the Traverse des Sioux Regional Library web page For Library Users, or click this l:ink. When you see the list of ELM databases and select one of the resources, have your library card handy because you will be prompted to enter the fourteen digit barcode from your card. The ELM databases will provide you with access to the full text of many articles. If the full text is not available, you can request a copy of the article through your local library. Be sure to e-mail or print the citation information for your local librarian.
An alternative way to search for articles is to click MnLINK from the online catalog menu bar. This opens a window to the MnLINK search page. Above the search box is a field labeled Current Profile, which defaults to All catalogs for MnLINK gateway. Click the arrow next to the box to get a
drop-down list of databases. Select a database labeled ELM, such as “Full text magazines/journals” and enter your keywords in the search box. From the results list, click the title of an article you wish to view. If the full-text of the article is available, there will be a link to it at the bottom of the article citation. If full-text is not available, you can request a copy by clicking the <Get it> button in the upper right hand corner of the screen. If you have not already logged on to MnLINK, you’ll be prompted for your fourteen digit library barcode. Type in your barcode (no spaces) and click the red <Sign in> button. (You do not need to enter a PIN or a password.) You’ll then see your request for the article. In the upper right hand corner, click the link Request via Interlibrary Loan. A form will display, with the article information already filled in. Find the Pickup Location box, and select a pickup library from the list of Traverse des Sioux member libraries, then click the red <Submit> button. The system assigns an ILL tracking number. You can track the status of your request by signing in to MnLINK at any time and clicking the My Requests link. Click the Sign out link on the far left column to end your session.
The TdS member library that you selected for pickup will notify you when your article has been received.
