The Traverse des Sioux Library Cooperative
strengthens,  improves, and promotes collaboration by providing
support services and coordinating shared access to resources,
programs, and technologies for member libraries.

Traverse des Sioux Library Cooperative (TdS) is one of twelve regional public library systems created in 1975 by the Minnesota State Legislature to provide support services to public libraries. TdS provides services to over 30 libraries in the nine counties. Our mission and vision along with goals and objectives are detailed in our 2017-2020 Strategic Plan.
Traverse des Sioux Library Cooperative was formed in 2013 when Traverse des Sioux Library System (a regional public library system since 1975) and SMILE (a multi-county, multi-type library system) merged. Traverse des Sioux Cooperative is thus both one of the State’s twelve regional public library systems and one of the state’s seven multi-county, multi-type library systems. TdS provides services to public libraries and multi-types in nine counties of south-central Minnesota. Counties are Blue Earth, Brown, Faribault, Le Sueur, Martin, Nicollet, Sibley, Waseca, and Watonwan.
TdS provides some services by through a paid contract to public and academic libraries. Those include cataloging, IT, automation, interlibrary loan and delivery services.
Other services are provided without fees, including communications, educational opportunities, and professional consulting services. Each member library must agree to share services, as allowed by their governing authorities. Public libraries must agree to reciprocal borrowing and a minimum level of services, as dictated by law and policies of Traverse des Sioux Cooperative Board.

Traverse des Sioux Library Cooperative is named for the point along the Minnesota River at which Native American Indian trails crossed and for the site of the signing of the Treaty of Traverse des Sioux.
